Seven: MC, George VI GRI type, engraved "Captain A E S G Brown RTR Gazala Line N. Africa 1945", 1939-45 star, Atlantic star, F&G star, Defence, and War with MID emblem, all subsequently impressed Captain A E S G Brown, MC, RTR, EIIR Coronation medal engraved Lt Col Brown, MC, RAOC, VF, mounted court style. Note: Allan Edgar Stanley Gilmour Brown, 44th Royal Tank Regt awarded MC (London Gazette 8.11.1945), recommendation states "Captain A. G. Brown - "After his squadron commander had been seriously wounded .. on May 28th 1942, Captain Brown took over command of his squadron and proved himself a very able commander. On May 29th he took out his squadron from 150 Bde box with two three ton lorries to an ammunition and oil dump some miles away and although almost continuously under enemy shell fire, he succeeded in loading both lorries with much needed diesel oil and ammunition and bringing then (sic) safely back to the box. On May 30th, after the enemy had captured Pt 174, Captain Brown operated his squadron from hull down positions throughout a long day and by his skilful manouevres succeeded in holding the enemy in check thereby preventing any further penetration.". Captain A E S G Brown, No 160729 of the 44th Bn Royal Tank Regiment, born 23.10.1913, enlisted 30.5.1934, was captured 1.6.1942 at the Gazala Line, North Africa. The Liberated Prisoner of War Questionairs for UK and Allied Countries of WWII shows Captain A E S G Brown was imprisoned in Campo 35, Padula, Italy from August 1942 to September 1943 and then, after an escape attempt, was transferred to Oflag VA Weinsburg, Germany where he was kept from October 1943 to March 1944. £750-900
