A very scarce Light Dragoon trooper's sword c. 1760-1780 by Drury, relatively slender curved single edge blade 81.5cms deeply stamped with a crowned GR above DRURY on both sides, iron stirrup hilt with fenestrated guard, unusual multi-facetted bun-shaped iron pommel with baluster turned button, ebony grip carved with spiral for (missing) iron or copper tape binding. Good condition for age, a little heavy pitting and minor bend at tip of blade, some age wear and cleaned overall, button disturbed. Note: almost certainly by Dru Drury Junior who worked in his father's shop until 1766, succeeded 1767, worked on own account until his retirement in 1795. See 'The British Cavalry Sword' Richard Dellar, 2013, PI 1.2 for a closely related sword by Nathaniel Jeffrys (who was in partnership with Dru Drury 1770 -1779
